Opt-outs

How a person stops your texts and voicemails, the words that opt them out and back in, where your opted-out numbers are listed, and how to opt a number out by hand.

A person who asks you to stop is left out of every voicemail and every text from your account, from every campaign. Most people opt out by texting STOP to your campaign line. Your team can also opt a number out by hand.

The words a person can text

  • To stop: STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, ARRET, ARRETER, FIN, ANNULER, QUITTER or DESABONNER. The line answers once to confirm, in English and French.

  • To start again: START, UNSTOP, DEBUT or REPRENDRE. Only a text like this from the person turns their texts back on.

  • For help: HELP, INFO or AIDE. The line answers that they can call or text this number and your team will help.

Every follow-up text ends with "Reply STOP to opt out." (in a French text, "Répondez ARRET pour vous désabonner."), so the way out is always in front of them.

What an opt-out does

  • The number is left out of your account's next voicemails and texts, from every campaign. It is checked before each campaign sends.

  • Any follow-up text still waiting for that person is cancelled.

  • A STOP never becomes a lead in your CRM.

See your opted-out numbers

  1. Open Campaign line in the sidebar.

  2. Select the Calls and texts tab and scroll to Opted-out numbers.

What you see

how many numbers are opted out, then each number with its name, its reason, the campaign and the date. Show all, with the count, lists the rest.

The reason reads one of:

  • Replied STOP

  • Asked to stop by text

  • Opted out by your team

  • Blocked by the carrier

In the Inbox, the Open chip's menu holds Opted out: the conversations of everyone who opted out. On Activity, a STOP shows as a row; select it to open this list.

Opt a number out by hand

Anyone on the team can do this, for example after a person asks on the phone.

  1. Under Opted-out numbers, select Opt a number out.

  2. Type the number in Their mobile or landline.

  3. Select Opt this number out.

There is no undo. Only a START text from that person reopens the line.

You can also opt someone out from their conversation in the Inbox: open More for this conversation and select Opt them out. See The Inbox.

Good to know

  • An opt-out belongs to your account. It does not stop other businesses that use The Call Guy.

  • When a reply reads like an opt-out but the person did not text STOP, the Inbox says so and offers Opt them out. Honour it.

  • A person who got your voicemail and wants no more can also write to contact@thecallguy.ca. See Got a voicemail from a business using The Call Guy?
