How a campaign runs

The whole product in four steps, from your list to the calls coming back: build, review, delivered, callbacks.

A voicemail campaign goes through four steps: you build it, the team reviews it, the voicemails are delivered, and the calls come back to you. This page walks through each one and links to the detail.

See it in the dashboard

The Getting started page shows the same four steps as picture cards under How a campaign runs: Build, Review, Delivered and Callbacks.

  1. Select Help in the top bar, then Getting started.

  2. Under How a campaign runs, select a card.

What you see

the welcome opens at that step's chapter, with a picture of the dashboard beside the words.

The welcome has five short chapters: Welcome to The Call Guy, A campaign is three things, Reviewed before it goes out, You pay for delivered voicemails and Then the calls come to you. Move through them with Next and Back, or select a dot to jump to a chapter. Skip or the close button ends it. On the last chapter, Show me around starts the tour of the dashboard. Watch the welcome, at the top of the page, opens it from the start.

Build

A campaign is three things: a permission-based list, a script, and a voice. The voice is yours, your team's, or a house voice. Each voicemail can say the person's own name.

You build a campaign at New campaign, in five steps: Name, Audience, Voice and message, When and Review.

  • Name: what you will find it by later, and the message mode: A message for each lead or One take for everyone. Both cost the same.

  • Audience: you upload your list. Its contacts must have given the permission required to receive prerecorded voicemail messages from your business. A campaign needs at least 25 contacts.

  • Voice and message: you pick the voice, write the script the way you talk, then hear the take.

  • When: the day, the start time, and what happens after the voicemail lands.

  • Review: you check every detail, then sign.

See Send your first campaign for the short path, and Build a campaign for every field.

Review

When you sign and select Submit for review, the campaign goes to the team behind The Call Guy. The team reviews every campaign before it is sent, usually within one business day. Nothing goes out until it is approved.

A store that chose Send on my own, under Campaign review in its settings, skips the team's review: the last button reads Sign and schedule, the dashboard runs its own checks, and the campaign goes out by itself at the time you picked. Every store starts on the team's review, and Send on my own opens after a store's first reviewed campaign.

Voicemails go out only inside regulated calling hours, starting on the day and at the start time you chose, on your business's own clock.

What you see

right after you submit, the campaign's name with "is in review", and Where it stands: Submitted, In review, Approved and Sending.

See How the team reviews a campaign and Calling hours.

Delivered

Credits are prepaid. One credit is spent only when a voicemail is delivered. A voicemail that is not delivered is returned, and its credit comes straight back to your balance. Credits last 12 months from the day you buy them.

People listen to the voicemail on their own time. Delivery & recordings, in the sidebar, shows what happened to every voicemail: delivered or returned, and the recording each person heard.

See How credits work and Delivered, returned and to go.

Callbacks

People call you back at your callback number. With a campaign line, every call to the line is matched to the campaign it came from. Counts calls to that number only.

A campaign on a campaign line can also send a follow-up text after the voicemail. The follow-up text is included with every delivered voicemail. Replies to follow-up texts land in your Inbox.

See Callbacks, What the campaign line is and The Inbox.
